INSIDE THE MEDIA (Editorial)

For a layman a journalism is a daring job.. I was in class 9 when I told my mother that I want to be a journalist.. she got a shock.. “It’s a risky job dear, u have to be smart enough to face any situation,”… But gradually I realized that this field is fake.. I’m sad to say that the journalism has sold itself to politics… Few newspapers are dominated by the political parties of India.. Few sets of newspapers and news channels are so much influenced by these politicians that they cannot write a word against their politician bosses.
My mother is a Chairman of Congress at a town area near Fatehpur District…while she was away from her town area for a marriage, the MLA of BSP Aditya Pandey with Mayavati’s legal adviser, Satish Mishra had entered into her office, sat on her official chair where even the DM will hesitate to sit,and shouted at her employees and used abusive language for her supporters… But my mother was smart enough to call for a meeting when she came to know about his misbehavior. Rallies were held and there were slogans shouted against him…
Etv and Sahara Tv were called.. Interviews were taken by these news channels.. This incident was also recorded in our camcorder.. But sadly thewhole incident was not telecast on the news.. WHY???
After all Fatehpur is dominated by the BSP and Aditya Pandey is a member of the BSP.. and also she had taken the help of her party to handle that politician… So the news was buried…
I came across another piece of news which was meant to fool the audience.. Few days back newspapers and news channel had shown a seme-nude woman in two pieces who marched with a hockey stick.. She was protesting against the domestic violence that she had endured and my first reaction was… “so sad, she had to take this step because our Indian police did not register her report,”…But through my media sources I came to know that the reporters had told her to strip down if she wants her news to be telecasted or printed…
WoW!!! this is our media… They can go to any extent to sensationalize news…
Has one ever compared various Indian news channels?
Remember that tsunami incident in Indonesia? The reportings were terrible.. So many people died… what was exact number I don’t remember, but how can I …. After all, all the news channel were giving different statistics of the people dead.. To make the news sensational they were told to increase the number of the casualties… The news channels and newspapers are forgetting their ethics because of the increasing competition.. The facts that are presented are not credible… the news is edited in such a way that the meaning of a sentence changes completely. …

I have gonet for various reportings and I have seen the media from upclose… I still remember that reporter from Aaj Tak news channel, who bombarded a politician:
“You are late…We have certain time limits to cover the news… Next time u do the same then I will not cover your news,”…
Politicians were taking a rally against another politician.. They were telling the channels to take the shot from here or there so that the news can become sensational.. There were 30 to 40 people participating in the rally but the shot was taken from such an angle that it seemed that there were more than thousand people in the rally.. A dummy was burnt and the reporters were giving instruction to the cameramen as to how the shots should be taken.. it was amusing..

Have you ever noticed the activity around Jantar Mantar or India Gate? You will always see various vans of the news channels. After all it is a hub of political rallies or any retaliations or stake outs.

But I do agree that though there are certain news which are not the truth there is also news that is not fake but is useful.. It is the media that forces the Indian police to take its duty seriously, they bombard the Indian police so much that they have no choice but to wake up!
I must say India is one democratic country.. It is true this country is for the people, by the people and of the people.. Each day there is a new media house which is coming up which is approachable by the common man whose trials and tribulations are there for everybody to see and sympathise with. And when you compare, the foreign media is not as free as the Indian media…. But it doesn’t mean that the “Indian Journalist” should destroy the facts and go against the journalism ethics…
You are there as the voice of the nation-the true representation of the feeble voice of the common man…the farmer who is committing suicide, the Jessica Lal who is getting murdered in broad daylight, the child of nithari who was killed by the dozen, and also the woman chairman of a humble village who is being harassed by the local MLA just because he has a personal agenda of his own.

I appeal to the journalist community of a wonderful democracy like India to NOT become the yesman of the political bigwigs-but to represent the common man and his plights-truthfully and with full sincerety.

SAVE THE WORLD... (Editorial)

All the religious books say “There will be a time when the world will come to an end”. It seems to come true sooner than expected or forseen. Since 1992, Earth has been experiencing rapid Global Warming and in future it will be a cause of significant destruction on the existing environment. Glaciers are melting, animals are becoming extinct, and various natural disasters present dangerous indications. Various signs of global warming are causing concern among the people.

The researchers believe that between 2030 and 2050, the ice in Arctic Ocean will completely disappear. The increasing emissions of greenhouse gases caused by the use of industries are making the ocean acidic. As a result many marine organisms are becoming extinct, especially plankton. The behaviors of various marine organisms are also changing. The temperature of Arctic region has increased from 35C to 40C and as a result the numbers of insects are increasing and the worms are eating away the birch leaves. Within few years at least 125 lakes have disappeared in the Arctic. If the temperature is not controlled then the Polar Bear in Arctic region will go wild and start attacking the humans so it is important to save their sea ice habitat. This climate change may also lead to the extinction of various animals including Polar Bear. Recently the scientists had noticed an early spring in Arctic region. The flowers emerging from the buds and chicks are hatching 30 days earlier than they did in 1990. According to some research wild geraniums, columbine and other species are blooming earlier that before. Arctic temperatures are increasing at twice the global average and is an increasing concern.

Himalayas, the tallest mountain range in the world is also under threat. There are indications that soon this mountain will disappear because it has started melting down??? The glacier lakes in Himalayas are increasing in number and sizes. The glaciers between South Asia and China has shrunk because of the rise in temperature caused by the greenhouse gases from the industries. If the temperature on the Qinghai-Tibet plateau is not controlled then a glacier, which was 500,000 square kilometers in 1995, will rapidly shrink to 100,000 square kilometers in 2030.This will imperil rain patterns, river flows and farming across Asia. Glacier-fed rivers could be over flooded as the ice melts but then dry out as the ice disappears. Even the Everest ice forest is melting down. There is a rise in the precipitation in the regions of Central Himalayas, Mount Everest and Annapurnas. This abnormal behavior of the climate will effect the life of the settlers near the mountain regions. The increase in the number or size of the glaciers is causing the risk of flood.

On 10 – 11 June 2007, major landslides had occured in Chittagong. It is also a negative sign of global warming. After 25 years Chittagong had 267 mm highest rainfall. The city was in chaos because 126 human lives were lost and there was huge destruction of property. Due to the heavy rains, the hills had come crashing down and the houses and people were buried.

Of course, the whole blame for the Global Warming Disaster has to be put on Man!!. They are responsible for polluting the atmosphere and making their own lives unsafe on this earth. In 1970 the scientists had discovered the depletion of ozone layer which protect the ultraviolet rays of the sun from directly entering atmosphere of the earth. The hole in the ozone layer was due to man- made chemicals known as chlorofluorocarbons (CFC). This gas we had been using in increasing amount in refrigerators, air conditioners, and as propellants in aerosol spray cans. The harmful chemicals used by the industrialists caused the Global Warming to accelerate. To build more and more industries, trees and hills were cut down. These activities are directly responsible for global warming. The trees are known as perfect antiwarming antidote because they protect us from the harmful rays. It holds the soil and prevents various natural disasters. But if the deforestation will continue taking place then the existence of the human life will become tough. Countries like Bangladesh, California, Florida, Western Europe are experiencing encroachment of the ocean as it eats into the country's coasts. Bangladesh is in threat because it may lose 17 percent of its entire territory to the ocean. Global warming is causing droughts, heat waves, wildfires, famines, new diseases, intense rainstorms, floods, food shortages, financial disaster and other extreme events. It is disrupting entire habitats and ecosystems, as well as the plants and animal lives including the humans. It is predicted that by the end of the century, a further rise of as much as 37 inches, or 3 feet may occur as snow and ice loss continues and the seas become warmer.

Various programs creating awareness relating to global warming are presented regularly. But are they rarely implemented. The well-educated industrialists are working hard to expand their industries in various parts of the world. The industries use burning fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal. It creates heat trapping carbon dioxide which is responsible for the greenhouse effect or global warming. Though these energies are used for the development of human race and eradication of poverty, but its effects have huge impact on human, animals and plant life and on the entire ecosystem. The industrial and domestic automobile is responsible for trapping 23 billion tons of carbon dioxide each year. These are the wakeup calls for the world. Instead of using their technology for destructive purpose its time for them to use these technologies for constructive purposes before its too late. Each and everyday there are news of natural disasters.. If early steps are not taken, then the world will come crashing to an end-much sooner than expected!
